10 Arts Institutions, and Great Wedding Venues 


When we set out to marry (please excuse the pun) our weddings and spring arts preview issues, we knew we had to include a roundup of great art institutions in the area that can also host weddings, a perfect intertwining of “The art of love and the love of art.” 

The National Museum of American History
1300 Constitution Ave. NW 

If you are getting married in the warmer months, the museum’s fifth floor rooftop terrace has sweeping views of The National Mall. The museum itself can be rented for events hosting 10 to up to 3,500 guests in a variety of spaces to best fit your group. Professional events specialists are available to help plan the wedding (or event) of your dreams.  

 

The National Museum of Women in the Arts
1250 New York Ave. NW 

Weddings at the NMWA can accommodate up to 450 guests for a seated dinner or ceremonies from 280 to 300 guests. Smaller weddings are perfect for the museum’s Great Hall and Mezzanine. The Third Floor Gallery is also available to rent for cocktail hour.  

 

Arena Stage
1101 Sixth St. SW
Arena Stage’s floor-to-ceiling windows and natural light make for a breath-taking weddings. The Mead Center is a great fit for gatherings large and small.   

 

The Kennedy Center
2700 F St. NW 

The Kennedy Center is available to rent for receptions big and small. One of the newest options for rent is The Reach. Their Skylight Pavilion is a great location for a seated dinner overlooking the Potomac.  

 

The Strathmore
10701 Rockville Pike 

Weddings are available at The Mansion (a gorgeous Georgian-style venue that sits prominently on a hill) for seated dinners of 100 people or standing receptions of 200. The Music Center also offers options like banquet seating in the Lockheed Martin Lobby, outdoor terrace or standing options too. AMP, located a mile from the main Strathmore campus, also offers wedding options. 

 

Glen Echo Park
7300 MacArthur Blvd.
Glen Echo, MD 20812 

Glen Echo Park is a great option for weddings any time of year. The art deco inspired architecture is a great backdrop as you celebrate your love story.   

 

National Building Museum
401 F St. NW 

There are multiple options for hosting a wedding, including the Great Hall, Pension Commissioner’s Suite, Auditorium, Beverly Willis Library and the Corinthian Lounge.   

Atlas Performing Arts Center
1333 H St. NE 

Atlas Performing Arts Center has a detailed PDF toolkit for events and weddings. They pride themselves on being more than just a wedding venue, with a bridal suite, groom’s suite, showers, professionally lit dressing rooms, and more. 

 

Wolf Trap
1645 Trap Rd.
Vienna, VA 22182 

Wolf Trap hosts dozens of weddings and other events throughout the year. There are seven rental spaces available based on performance schedules.  

 

National Museum of the American Indian
4th St. & Independence Ave. SW 

The museum can host private dinners for as little as 10 people to a full building rental for up to 1,500 guests. One of the best parts of the museum is a gorgeous Welcome Plaza with lush landscaping and a cascading water installation.
