Still growing and prospering, Georgetown looks forward to decade of watching with interest the activity on the other side of Rock Creek where the new capital is slowly rising. financial stability
What a difference ten years makes! With the national financial crisis upon us, all we are hearing is bad news both nationally and locally. A $700 billion dollar bailout for financial institutions on the national level is needed. Maryland is facing a $450 million shortfall if they pass slots – otherwise it’s a $1 billion plus shortfall. Virginia is facing a $2-$3 billion dollar problem. And the District faces a potential $131 million dollar revenue shortfall, something I believe we can manage.... [more]

Happy 55th anniversary
In 1979, I wrote my first cover story for the Georgetowner. It was a feature-style take on Senator Ted Kennedy’s ill-fated, imploding run for the Democratic presidential nomination against incumbent President Jimmy Carter, among others. I wrote the story on a borrowed old electric typewriter. I delivered the story in person to The Georgetowner offices above a bakery (Crumpets) on lower Wisconsin Avenue..... [more]
