What’s in your makeup bag?
When was the last time you checked what was in your makeup bag? Still have that favorite (now clumpy) mascara from 3 years ago? Has that dated baby blue eye shadow lost its luster? Maybe it’s time to do a little spring cleaning of your bag! Makeup in general has a very short lifespan and even though they do not have “expiration” dates, they can make you sick once they have spoiled! Here is a quick rule of thumb for keeping you makeup in ship shape!.... [more]

Chapter four
Diary of a Georgetowner
Georgetown has been laid out as a town; its harbor is busy; its residents are thriving and building substantial houses; and its affairs are being handled by a body of commissioners who meet regularly at one of the local taverns. Trade is growing on the river above Great Falls, and the flat-bottomed boats make their way back and forth from Georgetown and Alexandria to Cumberland almost daily during the good weather. Already some citizens have been discussing plans for cutting canals around the falls of the river..... [more]

In remembrance of Kayla
It was a sad day for the Evans family on Friday, April 4. I made the decision to put Kayla, our beloved golden retriever, to sleep.
After my wife Noel and I were married in September 1993, we decided to buy a puppy. It took awhile, but in March 1995, we drove out to a farm in Maryland that Noel read had puppies for sale. It Takes a Village...
Surrounded by stacks of plastic, metal and canvas boxes, I’m standing in the middle of The Container Store. This place gives me hives, so my mood is bordering on edgy at best. My life is not torn from the pages of Real Simple, and no amount of containers can make it so..... [more]

"1776" – Terrific Cast
It’s not much of a drive to go out to Olney, the still bucolic, but also lively and lovely Maryland town about 20 miles outside of Washington, DC, and take in the theatrical offerings at the Olney Theater Center. The theater, (actually three theaters now after completion of a major expansion plan in 2005), has been around for 70 years, but the perception persists that it’s still one of those institutions that fits under the category of secret treasures.....
