Off the coast of New England, a historic cod fishery has been ravaged by overfishing, climate change and government mismanagement. However, local fishermen are skeptical of the science and object to government policies that protect the fish but leave them fighting for their livelihoods. “Sacred Cod” examines the complex collapse of one of the world’s greatest commercial fisheries.

Told through the life story of the artist’s grandmother, 96-year-old Sophia Saren, Daniel Burkholder’s new multimedia work questions memory and the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves. In collaboration with Danceworks Performance Company, “Stories from a Life” interweaves interview video clips with athletic dancing, audience interaction and music both abstract and familiar.
