Wax Trump Debuts at D.C.’s Madame Tussauds (photos)

A 6-foot-3 (full-size) wax figure of Donald Trump was unveiled at Madame Tussauds in Washington, D.C., Jan. 18, just two days before his inauguration. Taking his place as the 45th president, Donald J. Trump’s figure was draped in a patriotic blue suit, with a red tie and an American flag lapel pin. The wax museum’s President’s Gallery is home to figures of all the past U.S. commanders in chief. Trump will stand tall in an immersive recreation of the White House Rose Garden, where guests can pose at an official podium next to the new president.

This is a no-nonsense Trump, wearing a frown, standing with legs apart and hands clutching his belt in a typical power pose (in marked contrast to the smiling and relaxed wax Barack Obama standing nearby with wife Michelle). The figure’s designers benefited from detailed measurements taken of the real estate developer at Trump Tower in 1997 for an earlier project. Wax figures, which take up to six months to create, begin with construction of the head. A lot of research went into getting Trump’s hair just right, according to Therese Alvich, general manager of Madame Tussauds Washington, D.C.

This D.C. wax Trump was one of four made in London, where one will remain. The other two were shipped to New York City and Orlando in time for the inauguration.

Madame Tussauds is located at 1001 F St. NW, less than a block from Ford’s Theatre.
