This is an opening reception for “Creatively We Unite,” an exhibition that includes a vast array of African and African American artists. Using a variety of mediums and expressions, Doba Afolabi, Mason Archie, Richard Fitzhugh, Robert Freeman, Cassandra Gillens, Hubert Jackson, Gloria Kirk, Christopher Malone, Ibou N’Diaye and Preston Sampson have come together in this show to creatively showcase unity. **Beijing Chinese Opera**

Students from the Beijing Chinese Opera will perform specially chosen operatic selections in the style of Peking opera, a stylized form of opera, dating back to the late 18th century, in which speech, singing, mime and acrobatics are performed to an instrumental accompaniment.

Early music luminary Jordi Savall convenes exceptional performers, classical and traditional, to illuminate the rich musical history of “La Serenissima” over a thousand years of empire. Chronicling the ecumenical and cosmopolitan society of the Venetian Republic and its dialogue of cultures, the program includes Byzantine hymns, Ottoman marches, and compositions by Dufay, Gabrieli, Monteverdi, Cavalli and Vivaldi.

Contemporary jazz pianist Marcus Johnson and his Urban Jam Band will perform songs from his latest album, “Live And Direct,” as well as songs from his 15 other releases. A graduate of Howard University, Johnson is a Billboard-ranked musician, a producer, an NAACP Image Award nominee and the founder of lifestyle company FLO Brands (“For the Love Of”). Johnson comes to AMP fresh off performances with jazz guitarists Earl Klugh and George Benson, singer Jeffery Osbourne and saxophonist Boney James.
