Aided by favorable spring winds, countless colorful kites flew above the grounds of the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, April 1. The Blossom Kite Festival, formerly the Smithsonian Kite Festival, is an annual kite event usually held on the National Mall in late March or early April during the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
