Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company Presents “Margin”

The company presented the world premiere of “Margin” at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in the Kogod Courtyard on Oct. 28. Burgess is the Gallery’s first choreographer in residence and his program was inspired by works in the museum’s triennial portrait competition “The Outwin 2016.” The nine dancers interpreted such themes as displacement, immigration, socio-economic inequality and gender. The choreographer hailed the Gallery’s inclusion of modern dance as a way to highlight the artistic fluency between mediums and also to reflect our current social contexts.
