Shots Fired at Georgetown Waterfront, Suspect Arrested

After gunshots were fired on the Georgetown waterfront around 9:20 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, a suspect was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. A five-shot revolver — said in an arrest affidavit to have been thrown to the ground by the suspect when he surrendered to police — was recovered at the scene.

There were no reported injuries or property damage.

The incident took place near the 3000 block of K Street NW, close to Washington Harbour and the House of Sweden (where, earlier that evening, the public had gathered for a talk by choreographer Mats Ek).

Suspect Dontrell Taylor, 35, of Southeast Washington was arrested by the U.S. Park Police. A court hearing is scheduled for June 2.

In the affidavit, witnesses said that the suspect had been ordered off a nearby boat by the boat’s owner following an argument and threatened to return with a gun.
