Scottish Clansmen March Through Old Town Alexandria in 46th Annual Scottish Christmas Walk Parade (photos)

Pipe and drum bands from around the region and Scottish clansmen wearing colorful tartans marched through the streets of Old Town Alexandria Va. in the 46th annual Scottish Christmas Walk Parade on Dec. 3, 2016. In 1749, the city of Alexandria was officially established by three Scottish merchants and named after its original founder John Alexander, also of Scottish descent. The parade included re-enactors, Scottie dogs, Scottish dancers, local dignitaries and a bagpipe playing Santa Claus.

The parade was part of Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend, one of the largest fundraising activities for the Compagna Center,a non-profit organization that serves children and families in need in Alexandria, Virginia.
