Bon Appétit Names D.C. Restaurant City of the Year

Bon Appétit Magazine has recognized Washington, D.C., as its restaurant city of the year. Food critics have finally come to appreciate the variety of delectable foods in the nation’s capital — but we already knew about that, didn’t we?

In addition to being the best place in the United States for a standout meal, Bon Appétit put Bad Saint, The Dabney and Tail Up Goat on the list of 50 finalists for America’s Best New Restaurants.

Downtown D.C. has become a booming hub of nightlife and culinary expertise, led by renowned chefs such as Aaron Silverman, José Andrés, Ann Cashion and Johnny Monis. The list of innovative restaurants and chefs goes on, landing Washington in a bubbling world of new foods that invites growing numbers of visitors to try out the latest dishes.

Washington is a place where diverse backgrounds can come together to develop something amazing — a melting pot of cultures. The diversity rings loud and clear in the astonishing selection of delicacies offered all across the District: Ethiopian, Mediterranean, Italian, Mexican, Asian and others. What representatives from Bon Appétit have admired is restaurant owners’ willingness to experiment, opening cool new joints in every neighborhood.

This years Metropolitan Washington Restaurant Week is just in time — August 15 to 21 — for people across the Metro area to experience the cuisine that earned Washington its championship title. Nearly 250 participating restaurants will be offering $22 lunches and/or $35 dinners from hand-selected, prix-fixe menus.

Whether you’re looking for a good ol’ classic burger and fries from BGR or a delicious brunch at Le Diplomate, there is no better place to go than right here in the nation’s capital, where great ingredients meet the highest levels of proficiency and creativity.
