Professor, Interrupted: Angelina Will Not Teach at Georgetown U. This Fall

Does this really have to be reported? Apparently so.

Celebrity chronicler Us Weekly reported over the weekend that actress and United Nations special envoy Angelina Jolie would be coming to Georgetown University to teach a course in the fall. That report caused a media reaction as the story moved to the Daily News, the Daily Mail, Vanity Fair and elsewhere.

Indeed, The Georgetowner on July 13 reported in its “Overheard at Lunch” column that Jolie might be coming to Georgetown University to teach a course, as she is teaching at the London School of Economics, which partners with the university.

Georgetown University media relations intervened Sunday to tell People Magazine: “There are no current plans for Ms. Jolie to teach at Georgetown, but Angelina Jolie and [former U.K. foreign secretary] William Hague have an open invitation to share their experiences and perspectives at Georgetown anytime they’re able.”

Jolie lectures on “Women, Peace and Security” at the London School of Economics, which shares the program with Georgetown. Involved with refugee and women’s issues, she has the option to lecture at Georgetown because of the partnership.
