Fall Trends

Photography by Luis Aragon

From the brightest raspberry to deepest plum, every color of berry makes Fall 2008 delicious. This is a color palette that is flattering to almost every skin tone and flushes a pale winter face with a glow. Given the berries’ enormous range of shades, head to toe tonal dressing has never been easier or more chic.... [more]

Secret Destination Discovered cover

It seems these days that words like fun, unwind, and relax are but distant memories of our former lives. Instead, we run around all day long doing things for other people to make them happy. Whether it be making dinner for your husband, taking the kids to school, staying late at work, or talking on the phone with a friend or family member in need—sometimes you’d rather be sitting in your tub soaking up the bubbles.   “Come on,” you often say to yourself,” when am I going to get some me time?”... Chapter thirteen

Diary of a Georgetowner

March 19, 1791. Major Pierre L’Enfant (whom some of our journals persist in naming “Longfont”) has arrived in Georgetown to survey the lands contiguous to Georgetown for the Federal City. He is a tall, erect man of military bearing and courtly manner. When I saw him he was completely enveloped in a long overcoat and a bell-crowned hat. He came to this country originally to volunteer his services in the war and became an officer of engineers. He has been employed as an architect in New York since the war.... [more]

Appreciating Your Vote cover

I want to take this opportunity to thank all the voters for your support in the election last Tuesday. As you know by now, I won the Democratic nomination for the Ward 2 City Council position with 65% of the vote, a large mandate for a 17-year incumbent in a time of youth, energy and change.

I believe it represents a validation of the policies I have pursued and those of Mayor Fenty whose positions I have supported. In particular, the approach he is taking, with my support, to school reform.... [more]

Thirteen New Doors on Wormley Row cover

Gary Kirstein of Encore Development [www.encoredevlp.com] has beautifully restored the charm of Prospect Street, Northwest (between 33rd and 34th Streets), by renovating the historic Wormley School building. The structure is nestled in the heart of Georgetown, only a block away from the bustling retail area along M street, but has been vacant since the school closed in 1994. It was purchased by Georgetown University, but sold to Gary Kirstein and his custom builders at Encore Development in mid 2005. After more than a decade of abandonment, Kirstein has injected new life into the building by transforming it into a luxury condominium complex. The block, now remaned as Wormley Row, boasts seven new luxury units.... [more]
