March 19, 1791. Major Pierre L’Enfant (whom some of our journals persist in naming “Longfont”) has arrived in Georgetown to survey the lands contiguous to Georgetown for the Federal City. He is a tall, erect man of military bearing and courtly manner. When I saw him he was completely enveloped in a long overcoat and a bell-crowned hat. Appreciating Your Vote
I want to take this opportunity to thank all the voters for your support in the election last Tuesday. As you know by now, I won the Democratic nomination for the Ward 2 City Council position with 65% of the vote, a large mandate for a 17-year incumbent in a time of youth, energy and change.
I believe it represents a validation of the policies I have pursued and those of Mayor Fenty whose positions I have supported. In particular, the approach he is taking, with my support, to school reform.... [more]

Thirteen New Doors on Wormley Row
Gary Kirstein of Encore Development [www.encoredevlp.com] has beautifully restored the charm of Prospect Street, Northwest (between 33rd and 34th Streets), by renovating the historic Wormley School building. The structure is nestled in the heart of Georgetown, only a block away from the bustling retail area along M street, but has been vacant since the school closed in 1994. It was purchased by Georgetown University, but sold to Gary Kirstein and his custom builders at Encore Development in mid 2005. After more than a decade of abandonment, Kirstein has injected new life into the building by transforming it into a luxury condominium complex.
